The Other Aphex Twin

Here's my chance to post something about Aphex Twin without really having to say anything new about Aphex Twin. Probably not too many people are aware of this [except maybe bleep-loving robots who were techno-logized in the late 80's/early 90's], but Aphex Twin once was comprised of two people - Richard D. James and his "twin" Tom Middleton, both of whom share the same birthday. The only material released jointly was the very first Analogue Bubblebath, of which Tom helped produce half of the four tracks. The two quickly parted ways and the rest is IDM history.

Tom released his first solo material under the name Schizophrenia at about the same time [1991] Analog Bubblebath came out. He then went on to team up with Mark Pritchard to form Global Communication, Reload, Link, Jedi Knights, and Chameleon before again releasing his own material.

Of the two mixes on the 12" put out by Mighty Force Records, this is the one without the vocal stylings of MC Musclehead and Crystal Tips (be thankful I didn't post that mix].

der_drexciyan_effekt

This extemporaneous RobotMix™ consists of randomly picked Drexciya / Heinrich Mueller tracks/remixes. As a result of the haphazard selection process, it jumps across the entire Drexciyan soundwavescape. Think of it as the sound of a restless robot's techno-logical soul in hyperspace.

Sex with the Machines

If someone were to ask me what my orientation is, I would have to say, "Electrosexual." Like the title of one of Imatran Voima's 12"s states, Electro Is Aural Sex. I can't quite place my finger on it (so to speak), but there's something that's just so sexy about it. Maybe something to do with the beats being good to have sex to? I wouldn't know. [I'm a robot, remember?]

For a significant number of acts in the electrosphere, sex figures heavily into the equation. I suppose sex has always been a fixture in the mix along with drugs and rock n' roll, but with these guys, it's just a bit more blatant. You need only hear the names of the bands to realize that there's sumpin' jiggy going on.

All Yesterday's Parties

Thought this might be a good time to link to a few other great robot mixes out there in cyberspace. Grab these while you can - you never know how long they'll be around.
