Sex with the Machines

If someone were to ask me what my orientation is, I would have to say, "Electrosexual." Like the title of one of Imatran Voima's 12"s states, Electro Is Aural Sex. I can't quite place my finger on it (so to speak), but there's something that's just so sexy about it. Maybe something to do with the beats being good to have sex to? I wouldn't know. [I'm a robot, remember?]

For a significant number of acts in the electrosphere, sex figures heavily into the equation. I suppose sex has always been a fixture in the mix along with drugs and rock n' roll, but with these guys, it's just a bit more blatant. You need only hear the names of the bands to realize that there's sumpin' jiggy going on.

Avenue D - You gotta love these girls. With raunchy lyrics, thick-ass beats, and plenty of ghetto-booty-shaking chutzpah for everyone, Debbie D. and Daphne D. surely know how to stick it to The Man.

Dirty Sanchez- Dirty Sanchez had their first brush with fame with the electroclash anthem "F***ing On the Dancefloor" followed by their own hedonistic version of Soft Cell's ode to midget-love, Sex Dwarf. After bringing their bawdy antics on the road for the last few years, these Really Rich Italian Satanists now have their first LP out. If you have a chance to see these sleaze merchants live, don't be a "black lacquer table" - GO see them.

Superstars of Love - These eclectic electro musicians from St. Louis sleaze to please with their nu wave disco techno. Check out some of their mixes here.

Xlover - Singer Nina Rai has been referred to as the female incarnation of Prince. 'Nuff said.

Mount Sims - A discussion of what iz zexy in electro wouldn't be complete without mentioning Mount Sims. Though his more recent output has shifted to the darker, more melancholy side of electro/synthpop, his music and shows of past have been known for their sexually charged atmosphere, complete with exotic dancers with speaker-heads and plenty of rump-shaking. Yeah, you know How We Do.

Keep on the lookout for his next project, the sure to be tasty next EP from The Silures [Vitalic + Linda Lamb] that will be out sometime before the summer.
