Minimal Wave
LA Pleasurebots: 1.03.09 New Wave Hookers
Submitted by dr™ on December 29, 2008 - 10:27pm.
This Saturday will be the first Robotsound event of 2009. What better way to ring in the New Year than with some stellar sounds of the last few decades. Come be a Midnight Moroder at:
Barcade
371 N. Western
8am - 2pm.
And of course, as always, it is FREE.
So don't waste your money on mediocre DJs when you can get the real deal for nothing (although we won't turn down free drinks =P).
RobotSound™ presenta: ZOMBI 11.1 LA
Submitted by zombiebot on October 25, 2008 - 1:05pm.
The RobotSound krew are proud to bring you a new night in clubbing entertainment. After searching for a while for a worthy venue, we've secured the first Saturday of each month at our new favorite neighborhood bar/arcade. No cover, no VIP/Bottle Service BS, no Hollywood parking nightmares, and [hopefully] no Hipster Scum [we've alerted the security to keep out people with ridiculous Emo haircuts, studded punker belts or if they look like this skinny-jeaned rockstar wannabe]. Just tight beats, shakin' grooves, sexy synths, cheap beer and Spy Hunter.
Sounds will be brought to you by myself, along with co-horts Georgio [aka Pollo Loco, Max], Skinjob, and occasional "special" guests. Each month will have a new theme to keep things interesting. This month we pay tribute to the undead with some unholy disco, mysterious electro and dark body music...

13 for the 13th
Submitted by dr™ on June 12, 2008 - 5:13pm.I felt mysteriously compelled to compile some dark tracks on the site tonight (as I am wont to do on particular dates/holidays) since once again it's Friday the 13th. No death/black metal or anything inherently malevolent by nature. Just things off the HD that fit with the theme (somewhat).
So, in honor of the day and in the spirit of keeping music evil, here are 13 ways of turning to the dark side...
Chromatics - The Killing Spree
Ceremony - Nothing Inside
David Gilmour Girls - Crimson As Murder
Ladytron - I'm Not Scared
Darker My Love - Post Mortem, Post Boredom
Absolute Body Control - Into The Light
Kiko - 7 Minutes
Automat - Eau Trouble
The Consumer - Dissociaty Identity
Neon Electronics vs. The Hacker - Better Way
Gosub - Lost In Our Ways
New York City Survivors - The Shadow
Eggfooyoung - Bad Dream
I'd say enjoy, but that's not particularly scary. How about what Elvira, Mistress of the Dark used to say...Unpleasant Dreams!
Absolute Body Controlled
Submitted by dr™ on April 6, 2008 - 4:12pm.
Performing live in the US for the first time, Absolute Body Control stormed LA and NY this past weekend. This was a super-rare opportunity to see two originators of Minimal Wave, Dirk Ivens & Eric Van Woternghem (also of Dive, The Klinik, Monolith, Sonar, and Blok 57) definitively rock the house with body-controlling jams from throughout their lengthy 28-year existence. For the mainly 30-something crowd at Club M/R/X, ABC's long-overdue visit was fully welcomed as evidenced by the chant-along with Dirk on several songs. Despite getting hassled by the overzealous security, the RobotSound Krew enjoyed the vintage analogue goodness after downing some Duvels (in honor of the visiting Belgians of course) and ogling the local talent.
Here's a clip of ABC performing the Suicide-esque So Obvious in NYC on 4.4.08
The Pleasure Principle
Submitted by dr™ on February 25, 2008 - 1:59am.It has been a while since I've offered a proper mix on RobotSound. Notwithstanding the fact that I've been listening to some decidedly retro-minded, un-robotic sounds as of late, it's time to return to our primary directive: Enabling robots like us to maintain their superiority edge on the sonic curve.
Our next audio hybridization installment comes to us from Spain, from the proprietor of Planeta Modular and it's a dark one indeed. Visions of dystopian futuristic soundscapes for the offworld colonies of tomorrow. Be seduced by the power of the darkside...
