Mystery Transmissions
Submitted by dr™ on October 14, 2008 - 12:53am....and we're back...Sorry for the lack of new content. Between scoping out a venue for the upcoming RobotSound monthly, going out to see live shows and generally watching too much TV [thanks a lot, TiVo!], I haven't been that great about keeping up with my ~once a week posting habit. I'll try to be better about that, okay? Not like I have any regular readers, do I?
Here's another abbreviated mix from a few weeks back. I didn't make a note of the tracks I played so the tracklisting is incomplete. If I figure out what the missing tracks are, I'll update the list [or, you're welcome to email me the names if you know what they are].

Bermuda Triangle - Enough (Sex Schön Remix)

Period Pieces
Submitted by dr™ on March 21, 2008 - 12:52am.Since I've been revisiting the golden years ['88 - '92] of House and Techno [plus a bit of Britpop and Trip Hop], it's only fitting that I include some visual evidence. Think of this post as a companion piece to last week's trip down nostalgia lane. I didn't include very much in the New Beat, Breakbeat or overtly Hardcore realms since that material can be the topic of several other posts. You'll definitely notice your Cheese Detector spike while watching some of this; keep in mind the era in which these clips were made. Nevertheless, I'm sure you'll agree that many of these tracks have rightfully earned their classic status and will forever be enshrined by old school ravers around the globe.
The Farm - Groovy Train
UHF - UHF [Yes, for a couple years there, Moby was cool.]
Utah Saints - What Can You Do For Me?
Renegade Soundwave - Biting My Nails
Fortran 5 - Heart On the Line
Baby Ford - Children of the Revolution
Njoi - Anthem [Watching Saffron lip-synch those samples just kills me.]
Bizarre Inc - Such A Feeling
808 State - In Yer Face
Beatmasters feat. Betty Boo - Hey DJ [Sorry, I had to include something by Ms. Boo, though I couldn't bring myself to post "Doin' the Do."]
The Beloved - Sun Rising
Electronic - Getting Away With It
Pet Shop Boys - So Hard
Blur - There's No Other Way
Lil' Louis - French Kiss [Easily the most bizarre video of the bunch. What the hell is this? I should probably include some kind of warning here.]
Massive Attack - Daydreaming
Pure Numbers

Submitted by dr™ on April 24, 2006 - 10:55pm.
Here's my chance to post something about Aphex Twin without really having to say anything new about Aphex Twin. Probably not too many people are aware of this [except maybe bleep-loving robots who were techno-logized in the late 80's/early 90's], but Aphex Twin once was comprised of two people - Richard D. James and his "twin" Tom Middleton, both of whom share the same birthday. The only material released jointly was the very first Analogue Bubblebath, of which Tom helped produce half of the four tracks. The two quickly parted ways and the rest is IDM history.
Tom released his first solo material under the name Schizophrenia at about the same time [1991] Analog Bubblebath came out. He then went on to team up with Mark Pritchard to form Global Communication, Reload, Link, Jedi Knights, and Chameleon before again releasing his own material.
Of the two mixes on the 12" put out by Mighty Force Records, this is the one without the vocal stylings of MC Musclehead and Crystal Tips (be thankful I didn't post that mix].

Undead Shocker: Zombie Ravers Murdered
Submitted by dr™ on March 26, 2006 - 9:58pm.
Saturday morning, March 25th, was not a good time to be at an After Hours party for several Seattle ravers who had attended "Better Off Undead," a Zombie-themed event. A 28-year old whack job from Montana, in an appararently random act of violence, killed six zombies and critically injured two more before turning his shotgun on himself. Here's a link to this sordid tale.
I'd like to take this moment to observe a moment of silence for our fallen zombie brethren. Tragedies like this should bring zombies and robots as well as ninjas, pirates, monkeys and French people closer together. We all need to watch out for each another and stay on the alert for psycho killers. On the real!
